I'm in the same verbal boat equally OP and like the Chippewa Apaches. I'thou also interested in the Thorogood American Heritage and different Blood-red Wing and Danner boots. Whatever opinions? I got a pair of steel toe Apaches about 14 months ago for calorie-free farm work until I left that chore in march or and so and they were fantastic. I still wearable them out and about when I know I'm going to be facing snow or mud. The extra weight from the steel toe doesn't carp me that much and I have used them to practice some hiking the the Adirondacks among other places this summertime. If I were more than serious about hiking I would of course get a proper pair of hiking boots simply they work. I beloved them, they've held up well considering the snow and common salt and mud. My only gripe is the Vibram started to separate from the toe, but I attribute that to me boot things at piece of work more than than poor craftsmanship.

I have the Cherry-red Wing 2206 half-dozen Inch boot and I really like them. They took some fourth dimension to intermission in but at present they are very comfortable in the field. My only complaint is that it is a very heavy boot and there is no ventilation....something to keep in mind if you lot work in a warm climate similar I do.
